Another rare mall that we have both visited. Ridgmar fell hard very fast. Once Neiman Marcus announced they were leaving, Macy's pulled out shortly afterwards. That left half of the mall without anchors, creating a void. I preferred this mall over Hulen Mall. Another bonus was the last DelTaco in Texas down the road that lasted about a year after all of the other Texas locations closed again.

The reason for the side of get mall that was torn down was because there were plans for a high rise apartment building. Covid happened!

Local Law Firm Kaufman and Linde often still rents out the movie theater every time there is a big Blockbuster film and gives free tickets to its clients with Raffles and it's usually a pretty fun event but it is sad to see the rest of the mall around you pretty empty when you're there for the movie

I wonder why Altamonte Mall is still thriving compared to FS and Oviedo…

It’s so surreal to watch this video as a way to know what’s still open in a mall I used to visit every other weekend and now barely venture on that side of town…

Going here is honestly depressing, it's like a ghost town. Last time I was in there, employees were just on their phones and most shops were closed, it was a sad sight. I think it's safe to say more people will make the trip further out south to Woodland Hills instead

This mall is holding up some SERIOUS real estate on Colonial. Everyone would be looking to buy this land. I can understand holding strong honestly. Baldwin park just down the road and the new apartments on the backside could really pull this place up by its bootstraps. It’s just that it was all commercial nearby for so long. You have to cross under 408 just to get to some real residential areas. It’s a bad location but a fantastic one at the same time. They must be working to really redevelop. (Glad you enjoyed all our roads)

When I moved to Orlando in 1979, this was the "new" mall on the east side of town, just a mile or so from the old Colonial Square Mall...which was later demolished and became Colonial Plaza, an open air shopping area that still exists. Just behind Fashion Square was the Orlando Naval Training Center, which also handled the training center for the nuclear submarine program. The mall had white suited navy personnel all the time. When they closed the ONTC, they turned that property into a housing development eventually...but by that time Florida Mall and later Millenia Mall became the upscale malls in town, and this mall was doomed to decline. The last time I was in this mall was in 2010, before I moved to South Fla. It was still in good shape at this time, but the writing was on the wall. This was my favorite mall in the late 80's to late 90's, with Sears, Penny's, Dillard's, and Burdines as the main anchors. It is sad to see it's condition today.

On one of the big columns, you can see an MM, ie 2000. Nice touch and reference to their big 2000 renovation.

Something can be said for a community who does not change much over the years. Still too cold for me to make it worth all the amenities that are clearly there.

I haven't been to the Ridgmar Mall in ages, I mean ages. Probably since my earliest double-digits. The malls I mainline these days are the Grapevine Mills, Northeast Mall, and the closest being Parks at Arlington. Three very healthy malls. I'm hoping Ridgmar pulls through for the longer run, because if the three malls I mentioned can keep it up so can Ridgmar, if they just tried.

I always go to take walks, I live nearby. They actually fixed the downgoing escalator. Very recently both escalators were blocked off. Weird they would even put resources toward it, they'd been using just the elevator for so long.

Fun fact: JC Penney has very loud escalators.

I moved from out of state to Shawnee, OK for about 4 months before landing in OKC. My first time in this mall was 2006 and I visited a few times during my 4-month stay in Shawnee. It was full of people most of the time. I know you said you were there during opening hour, but any time I passed the mall in ‘06 the parking lot would be decently full. Man how times have changed. You’re not wrong about the crime there. I was shocked at how big meth use was and probably still is there.

Thank you for covering Greenwood! My grandparents lived in Bowling Green the longest and whenever we would visit them, we would frequent the mall to keep ourselves entertained. Aladdin’s Castle was my brother and I’s haven when it was around. We spent hours in there playing near every game!

Best childhood ever

So sad. Worked here in the early '80s and it was always packed especially around xmas time. People would be lined up outside the store a la Dawn of the Dead hanging on the gates before opening. Most of them hoping to snag an Atari 2600.

I moved to Orlando in 2002, I visited this mall on a weekly basis until around 2010, it was great.

I think I know the security guard you're talking about near the end, if she was on the older end and kinda too underweight for a security guard. She's not necessarily mean or anything, but she tends to get these weird ideas in her head where minor rules need to be enforced and doesn't necessarily think about whether it's reasonable or not. She's actually really nice when she's not in "I need to enforce" mode, but yeah, she tends to go off on unnecessary details. She also gets cold very easily, so that's probably why she could stay on the upper floor just fine. And yeah, I know she used to work at that mall. She currently works where I work now. That said, when I moved to the Tulsa area, I had to go to this God-forsaken mall and wait over three hours just to get my license transferred over at the DMV branch there. I can confirm that there is zero air conditioning. But at least it was better than the OTHER option where you could just wait hours in a line, standing, out in the burning Sun at the other DMV branch.

hi, have you been to the salisbury mall yet? it’s kind of semi-dead lol. both the macy’s and jcpenney is shut down, and they’re just sitting there abandoned. half the store spaces in that mall are abandoned as well.

West Oaks Mall keeps adding local business everything is in that mall now. Need to save the mall.

This is so surreal. I used to come here all the time in college and it was always BUSTLING. I still drive past there relatively frequently.

The one with the secret underground base. The only mall that shutdown because of 9-11.

Back in the 70's it was glorious - as good as a mall could get. Then when Star Wars opened - those times - still golden. I was 14 in 1977, and cannot drive down Hwy 50 past this site without severe pangs of nostalgia. OMG what it was - what has been lost. Remembered forever - magical forever.
